In addition to the many weekly markets which take place in the towns throughout Umbria, there are also numerous festivals and events occurring during April to September in various towns throughout Umbria, and also in neighbouring Tuscany, and Marche.
The festival year commences during April with the Festa del Tulipano di Primavera and the Coloriamo i Cieli in Castiglione del Lago.
Assisi hosts their renowned Calendimaggio Festival, a re-enactment of Medieval and Renaissance life including processions, theatrical presentations, choirs and crossbow, flag-waving, and dancing contests, takes place during the first week in May.
May also sees Gubbio holding the Festa dei Ceri, one of the oldest of events in Italy with processions and parades followed by the investiture of the captains and a race through the streets.
Spello holds the Infiorate di Spello in June with the streets covered in spectacular and colourful carpets of flowers.
July is a busy month with the world famous Umbria Jazz Festival in Perugia, Il Festival dei due Mondi in Spoleto, the Arte Festival in Todi, the Festa delle Acque at Piediluco, the Trasimeno Blues event at Lago Trasimeno, not to forget the annual Beer Festival at Pietralunga.
August is also busy with the Palio dei Colombi at Terni, the Palio dei Quartieri at Nocera Umbra, Festa di Santa Chiara at Assisi, and the Palio dei Terziere at Città della Pieve.
Sansepolcro offers various activities and events throughout each year including the celebrated Palio della Batestra featuring the crossbowmen of the town competing against rivals from nearby Gubbio taking place in September, and also the mid-Lent Fair, the Fiera di Mezza Quaresima, promoting local products and handicrafts.
Perugia hosts the internationally renowned Eurochocolate Fair in October, which is also the month for Festa di San Francesco in Assisi. Also in October the spectacular Trevi Trevano takes place featuring a lavish procession of figures in medieval costume who wind through the city streets decorated with flags, banners and banners, an archery tournament, and with the streets, squares, courtyards and old corners of the historic center of Trevi alive with hundreds of characters in medieval costume with music echoing through the streets of the city from late afternoon.
In November there is a large market with a fun fair which takes place in Perugia.
There are also many local sagra’s and festivals throughout the year, with food, music and town square dancing.
